David and Katrina had two days of celebrations, starting with their intimate wedding that took place at The Mountain Mermaid, a beautifully-restored historic venue nestled in the hills of Topanga. (See their second wedding day in Glen Oaks here!). These are just the sneak peeks – I’m so excited to share the full gallery that includes their day shot on 35mm film!
In their inquiry, they shared that they wanted “to look back on pictures and see people, experiences, and feelings.” Documentary wedding photography is perfect for that—a gallery filled with emotion, real moments, and all your favorite people under one roof, celebrating your love. I truly believe it’s those un-staged moments—the laughs, the tears, the quiet in-betweens—that bring back memories in the most vivid, meaningful way.
As with all of my clients, we hopped on a couple more calls as their wedding got closer to finalize timeline details and set clear expectations around photography. K&D decided they wanted to sprinkle in a few moments for couple’s portraits, so we did about 10 minutes right after their first look and another 10 minutes during dinner. I love breaking up couple’s photos like this—it keeps things low-key so my couples don’t feel like they’re missing too much time with guests, and it also creates way more variety in their final gallery.
Katrina looked like an absolute supermodel in her sleek gown, surrounded by lush, colorful florals from Superbloom Topanga. And Los Angeles wedding planner Jade Devaux did an incredible job at making sure the day ran smoothly. Live music by Emma Taylor made the day feel even more intimate and romantic.
During cocktail hour, guests were treated to a special visit from W.I.L.D., an animal rescue organization that brought their wildlife ambassadors to meet everyone—a unique way to share their love of animals and support a cause close to their hearts.
