With engagement sessions, my intention is for your photos to feel like you. For Athena and Collin, that meant starting at Griffith Park at sunset and ending the evening with something they do often together—grabbing slushies at 7/11. These little rituals may seem small, but they tell such a big part of a love story. Documenting their session on both digital and 35mm film created a timeless, nostalgic layer to their gallery.
I always encourage couples to choose locations that mean something to them. Whether it’s your favorite neighborhood spot, a coffee shop you frequent, or the trail you walk in the mornings—these are the places that hold memories. And when those familiar spaces become the backdrop of your photos, they instantly carry more significance.
Here’s what Athena had to say about their experience:
“I’d like to preface by saying that my fiancé and I are both introverts by nature, and so taking pictures of ourselves is not necessarily our idea of a great time. However, working with Mary completely put us at ease during our engagement shoot — even while taking photos in such a public space (Griffith Observatory!!) — and allowed us to feel comfortable and have the best time. Her easy-going attitude and expert professionalism truly made us feel so confident and relieved that we chose her to be our photographer throughout this process.”
