Kelly & Megan’s mini engagement session took place at the Neon Retro Arcade in Pasadena, CA.
My favorite engagement sessions are centered around an activity that is meaningful in some way to the couple. It really makes a shoot feel more like a date, and can add so much more meaning to their photos. With all couples I work with, I aim to immerse myself in their story and have a good sense of what their vibe is. When Kelly told me that their first date was at an arcade, I was super excited when they agreed to have their mini engagement session at the very place they first connected!
Retro settings call for retro mediums, so I brought along a Kodak disposable camera to add to the fun. During our consultation call, Kelly showed one of her favorite photos she saw on my Instagram which was snapped by a Kodak disposable. So happy with how their gallery turned out!! I absolutely love doing sessions with film these days. The imperfect, natural grain of the resulting images can really add authenticity to a gallery. Photos do not have to be perfect. I’ve found that the more I break away from my conceptions around perfection, the more fun I have and the more creativity flows!
Getting to witness and capture couples especially at a location that’s so significant to their story is so incredibly special and makes me feel so grateful to do what I do. I cannot wait for their wedding next May!!
